How do I use Stripe Reader with the Point of Sale system?
Our Point of Sale system (POS) supports processing with a Stripe card reader device that supports modern credit cards' EMV chips, tap-to-pay, and more for fully encrypted transactions.
We currently support the BBPOS WisePOS E device. We may add support for additional devices in the future.
If you do not already have access to the POS, read this article for further instructions and contact support to request access.
Reader Configuration
- Power up your Stripe reader by holding the power button on the right side for a few seconds.
- You may be prompted to select the default language and country.
- To operate, the reader must be connected to the Internet via WiFi.
- The reader will automatically scan for nearby networks. Select your network and enter the network password to get connected.
- If the reader has not already been registered, a new registration code will be displayed for use to connect to the reader.
-
- Note: If your reader has been previously used or has already been registered with another ecommerce platform, you can re-register your device by swiping right on the reader display to access settings.
- The universal PIN to access settings is 07139.
- Choose "Registration Code" to generate a new code and continue.
- To link the reader to your BTT organization, navigate to the POS and go to Stripe Reader tab in the POS.
Click the "Register a Stripe Reader" button to begin the registration process.
- Enter the registration code displayed on the reader, and choose a friendly name for your reader. This can come in handy if you are managing multiple readers in your box office.
Your new reader will now be displayed in the reader list and automatically selected as your current active reader. The reader list will display the online status, serial number, and network location of each reader for easy troubleshooting.
- Once registered, the reader may download and apply any necessary software updates. Do not turn off the device during this process.
Congratulations! Your Stripe reader can now process ticket purchases through our Point of Sale system.
Usage
- With a Stripe reader configured and active, clicking the "Credit" button will automatically initialize the readerpayment process and prompt the Reader to display the amount of the purchase and wait for customer interaction.
- Note: If there are technical issues with your reader or it is unavailable, you can switch back to manual transactions by toggling it off in the reader list. Similarly, if you are having momentary issues with a transaction or the reader during a purchase, you can cancel the reader action and switch to manual card entry for just that order.
- The reader will display the amount due and wait for the customer to present their card or tap-to-pay device. The reader supports chip, swipe, and tap-to-pay transactions.
- If the transaction is successful, the customer will be prompted to enter their email address on the reader if they'd like to get a receipt. This is optional and the customer can tap the "Skip" button to opt out.
- If the transaction failed on the reader, the customer will be prompted to retry, and if they are still having trouble with various methods of payment, you can switch to manual entry through the POS to make a final attempt, or cancel and finalize with a cash transaction.
- Once our system detects that the payment was successful, the tickets will be generated and you will be prompted to print or redeem the tickets and begin a new order.
